WICHITA HIGH SCHOOL WEST
GO PIONEERS!

Friends, I feel so helpless regarding the travesty that was set upon
our Country on September 11. These are merely my thoughts.........Bonnie Hoffman

On the morning of Sept. 11, my world was changed,
When the Towers came down & my life rearranged.
For a few brief moments, Americans stood still,
And watched in horror, followed by a dark, sombre chill.

The 1st Tower came down, then the 2nd one, too,
And in a short while, the 3rd plane flew......
America the Brave was now on attack,
All of a sudden we established a pack.

Our Country is Great, for that we know.......
A united front is what we will show!
The Red, White, & Blue will never fall,

As the dust rolled out and down the street,
Strangers stopped to help others who'd fallen in fleet.
This rumble and horror was felt world wide,
Nothing for anyone to take in stride.
The eyes of the world turned our way...
As people from a far took time to pray.

People all around the country stopped and stared in fright,
As they watched t.v.s unbelieving the sight.
Americans are quick to rally around
And began arriving by surface and ground.

All flights were diverted to towns so small,
And those rural places opened their arms to all.
Entire America came to a standstill....
And once again we each felt that darkening chill.
Who in the world could hate us so much,
To attempt to devastate our lives in one swift touch?
The lives that were lost and the toll this has taken,
Have left our people just a little bit shaken.
Before the dust cleared and the flames burnt out....
You could see rescue workers and hear their strong shout.

The word 'normal' will never be quite the same,
As we look around for those to blame.
This terr'ist attack on our country so free....
Has affected each one of us, including me.
We're a nation that's brave, and strong to the core,
We're not going to be cowered by the terriorism we abhore.

Our fathers and grandfathers, uncles, and friends
Have previously fought wars upon which our freedom depends.
No threat of terrorism or attack on us,
Is going to be overlooked without serious fuss.
For those who perished on that fateful day
Will forever be etched as heros to stay.
There were those who knew what their destiny was to be,
And unselfishly gave their lives so that I could remain free.

As I watch, mesmorized at the television set,
I wonder how all this will be met.

I'm angry and sad, and often in tears....
Especially when I see our flag burning among jeers.
I'm only one person, but I believe in me....
So let's join hands across America from sea to sea!
When each one of us holds strong and fast,
Together as a country we'll withstand any blast!

Although we're grieving in different ways....
It's time to pray and move ahead in our days.
Let's hold our heads high and make a United stand,
Together we can, no matter the demand.
So put out your flag and wear red, white, and blue,
And remember America is your great country, too!

GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE!
